NEW CEO FOR THE LAUNDRY ASSOCIATION AUSTRALIA

It is my pleasure to introduce Mr Phil Sutherland as our first Chief Executive Officer.

Phil will commence with us in February 2021, and he comes to us following a long and distinguished career as a CEO of Industry and Business Associations.

This includes several years as the CEO of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy, and more recently eight years as CEO of the Civil Contractors Federation South Australia.

Phil’s earlier career was in senior positions in Federal, State and Local Government.

This government experience has held him in good stead particularly in the important area of advocacy and industry and government relations.

Well known in government, industry, and media circles particularly in South Australia Phil has a reputation as a fearless champion and advocate for his industry.

Under Phil’s leadership the Association’s he has managed have gone from relative obscurity to being highly visible and influential.

Similarly, together with membership growth, the financial circumstances of the Associations he has led have markedly improved making it possible to provide

additional support and services to the membership.

Very positively Phil is a great believer in member driven industry associations and to that end he will be reaching out to every member to gain a full appreciation

of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and how best the LAA can assist. We can be confident Phil will draw on his extensive experience to give the important

role the commercial laundry sector plays in our community a much higher profile.

He will advocate for changes to government policy and regulation so that this better supports the growth and prosperity of our sector and membership.

At interview Phil discussed in some detail the importance of a unified and collegiate Association membership.

We are all competitors, but we have many challenges in common, and many opportunities for mutual benefit.

Now with a CEO, with the task to strengthen the LAA as business, and as an Association that is a highly visible and active representative peak industry body.

Phil comes to the CEO role with the full support of the LAA board. The board is confident that with the support, co-operation, and encouragement of all members

(current and prospective) our hopes and plans will be realised. Phil will contact you early next year.

Please join with me in welcoming Phil to the LAA & our wonderful industry.

Kind Regards

Joe Sullivan

Twinclean Cancellation

CANCELLED – TwinClean Conference

Earlier this year we advised all members that the TwinClean 2020 conference would be rescheduled to October 2021, still to be held at Crown Casino.

After much deliberation and discussion it has been decided by the TwinClean Steering Committee to completely cancel the conference so it will not be going ahead in October 2021 and this stage if it does go ahead it will be after July 2022.

It has not been an easy decision to make as most of the work had been done for the conference and it was turning into a very exciting event.  We were looking at having 100 delegates from overseas attend plus members of the International Drycleaners Congress, Dry Cleaning Institute of Australia and the TRSA (USA).

The committee do not feel confident that local and international business conditions, not to mention international travel, will return to normal for another 12 months therefore affecting the viability of an international conference being held.

We thank you for your support and look forward to holding another TwinClean conference sometime in the future.

Twinclean 2020

We wish to advise you that the TwinClean 2020 Vision conference will be postponed from 22 – 24 May 2020 to a later date.

Due to the issues around the COVID-19 virus it is not feasible to have an international exhibition in Melbourne in the next two months.  The Drycleaning Institute of Australia, Laundry Association Australia, International Drycleaners Congress and Crown Melbourne are working hard to come up with a suitable alternative date and we will let you know as soon as one is confirmed.

We apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause and it is disappointing given the amount of time and effort that has gone into the event already.
